STATESBORO - Georgia Southern senior catcher/outfielder Logan Harrell has been named the Community Coffee Sun Belt Softball Player of the Week, announced today by league officials.
Harrell hit .438 with four home runs and eight RBI, slugging 1.250 as Georgia Southern went 5-2 in this week's action, including a 5-1 mark at the Bash in the Boro tournament in Statesboro over the weekend. The Pembroke, Ga., native drilled a grand slam home run in the Eagles' 19-2 win over Morehead State on Saturday, her fifth career collegiate grand slam. She then added a two-run blast in the 8-3 win over IUPUI on Friday and also had solo home runs against Mount St. Mary's and UMKC. Harrell had hits in six of the seven games this week and also drew three walks for a .526 on-base percentage.
This is the second weekly honor for Harrell as she also earned Sun Belt Player of the Week honors for Georgia Southern on March 20, 2018, during her junior season. She is the first Georgia Southern softball player to earn Sun Belt weekly honors twice in her career, and she is the first Eagle to earn conference Player of the Week honors twice since Mackenzie Williams was a two-time SoCon Player of the Week honoree on April 18, 2011 & April 2, 2012.
Summer Ellyson of Louisiana was named this week's Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week. Click here to view the complete Sun Belt Conference softball weekly release.
