Georgia Southern Drops Finale to Auburn, 4-3 in 13 Innings

Jason Swan posts a three-hit game as the Eagles drop the weekend series by the narrowest of margins

AUBURN, ALA. – Georgia Southern fell 4-3 to Auburn on Sunday afternoon in the rubber match of the weekend series. Sunday's game was the second-straight 13-inning contest and came only hours after the Eagles defeated the No. 15 Tigers on Saturday evening. Georgia Southern will have Monday off before facing Georgia Tech in the 2019 Home Opener on Tuesday at 6 p.m. on ESPN+.

SCORING MOMENTS
Top 2nd | GS 2 - AUB 0 | A leadoff walk to Noah Searcy, followed by a HBP to Steven Curry opened the door for a two-run second inning. A sacrifice fly by Blake Evans scored Searcy, and a fielding error at shortstop allowed Curry to score and make it a 2-0 Eagle lead.
Bot 3rd | GS 2 - AUB 1 | A double down the left field line with a runner on first gave Auburn its first run of the game and cut the Georgia Southern lead in half in the third.
Bot 7th | GS 2 - AUB 2 | Auburn tired the game with a solo inside the park home run from Edouard Julien. Nick Searcy was camped under the ball against the wall, but the ball hit just out of his reach and ricocheted off Searcy's head, going for the inside the park home run.
Bot 8th | GS 2 - AUB 3 | Three walks to the Tigers in the eighth loaded the bases. Rankin Woley drove in a run to hand the home side a 3-2 lead.
Top 9th | GS 3 - AUB 3 | Jason Swan singled with one out and reached scoring position with a single to left from Tyler Martin and a steal of third. Noah Searcy struck out with a chance to tie the game, but the ball was in the dirt, allowing Swan to sprint home and tie the game at 3-3.
Bot 13th | GS 3 - AUB 4 | Auburn got a single and three walks in the 13th inning to take the 4-3 win in the game and the series.
