Records Fall At Clemson Indoor Season Opener

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Georgia Southern track and field team opened its indoor season Saturday at the Clemson Season Opener highlighted by Merabu Nagwandala's win in the 1-mile and a record 3000m display, and Scovia Ayikoru's performance in the 200m and 400m.
Nagwandala broke the Georgia Southern school record in the 3000m at 10:23.65 with a third-place finish while Ayikoru placed second in the 200m with a time of 24.79, the fourth best indoor time in Georgia Southern history. Ayikoru also won the 400m with a time of 56.11.
Middle/Hurdles: Ellunde Montgomery ran a new personal-record in the 600m of 1:37.84 to finish 9th. Jakeeyah Seymour hit a new PR in the 60H prelims with a time of 9.18. Meagan Lynch set a new PR in the 300m with a time of 40.15 to finish 12th out of 47 runners.
Distance: Nagwandala broke the school record in the 3000m and also won the 1-mile run with a time of 5:10.15.
Jumps: Seymour jumped a career-best 17-5 ½ in the long jump on her way to 16th.
Throws: Soteria Russell throws 48-5 and 41-11¼ in the weight throw and shot put respectively in her first action as an Eagle.

The team will now take seven weeks off before the next meet at the Gamecock Opener on the campus of the University of South Carolina Jan. 17-18.
