
Women's Tennis Adds Two for 2020-21

STATESBORO – The Georgia Southern Women's Tennis team signed two athletes from Europe Wednesday on National Fall Signing Day for the 2020 fall season and 2021 spring season.
Sara Barriendo and Sophie Wagemaker signed their NLI's Wednesday, the first day of the early signing period, and will begin their Eagle careers in the fall of 2020.

Barriendo, of Santander, Spain, won the Spanish National Championship and the Babolat Regional Championship as well as achieving a national ranking of 65th.

Wagemaker, a Zuid-Scharwoude, Netherlands product, won the Dutch Masters National Championship and has a current Dutch national ranking of 61st. She is the younger sister of current Eagle Men's Tennis athlete Pascal Wagemaker.
What head coach Sean McCaffrey had to say: "I am very excited about having both Sophie and Sara join the Eagle Tennis family. Not only do both young women display a high degree of character and a dedication to academics, they have also proven themselves on the court. I am extremely excited to welcome them both to Statesboro as they will no doubt help us continue to build a championship culture."
The 2020 women's tennis season begins Jan. 17 against Florida A&M in Jacksonville at 10:00 a.m.
