Key moments
The Eagles (4-10, 0-1) held a 20-17 advantage in the first set, which saw 12 ties and seven lead changes. App scored three in a row with the help of a Kara Spicer kill and an Anna Kincaid block, but the Eagles had set point after a Mountaineer service error. A kill by Victoria Wilform tied the score 24-24, and Spicer got a kill and assisted on a block to give the Mountaineers (9-4, 1-0) the set, 27-25.
An 8-4 spurt helped App to a 25-20 win in the second set, and the Mountaineers opened the third with an 8-2 run. Â
Eagle of the Match

Quotables from coach Dustin Wood
On the end of the first set
"It was a well-played set. I was really pleased with how we played, and I think we had two set points. They made a really good play and sided out on one of them right away, and I think we dug a ball and just didn't put up a good ball to swing at on our other opportunity to end the set. They finished and we didn't but I was happy with the way we played. I just wish we could have sustained that level in the second and third sets."
On the extra break with the match against Coastal Carolina postponed
"We've been playing every weekend, so I think it gives us a chance to reflect and not put too much on our bodies. The kids don't get too many weekends so it will be a good thing for them to go in and watch some film and do some team bonding and then have the rest of the weekend and come in Monday excited and ready to work for Alabama."
Next Up
The Eagles' contest against Coastal Carolina scheduled for Saturday has been postponed because of Hurricane Florence and will be rescheduled on a later date. GS will make the Alabama swing next weekend, facing South Alabama Friday and Troy Sunday.
