STATESBORO - Georgia Southern senior setter Kirsten Barrett was named Sun Belt Conference volleyball Setter of the Week today by league officials, her third weekly honor this season.
Barrett averaged a stellar 12.00 digs per set in Georgia Southern's pair of 3-0 Sun Belt victories this week, the only league team to win both matches by 3-0 scores. Her 12.00 assists per set were tops of any Sun Belt setter on the week, and the Cleveland, Ohio, native averaged 3.17 digs per set and 0.50 service aces per set. She directed her team to a .284 hitting percentage for the entire week and registered a double-double in Friday's win over Old Dominion with 32 assists and 11 digs, her sixth double-double of the season, while adding 40 assists in Thursday's win for an outstanding 13.3 assists per set average.
The Sun Belt Conference's current leader in assists per set at 10.24, Barrett ranks 19th in NCAA Division I in that category. She also leads the league and ranks 18th nationally in service aces per set at 0.56.
This is the third weekly honor for Barrett this season and the sixth career Sun Belt weekly honor. That's the most weekly honors from the league for any Georgia Southern athlete, regardless of sport, since the Eagles joined the league in 2014.
Barrett and the Eagles return to action on Friday, October 3, hosting Marshall in a 6 p.m. Sun Belt Conference contest at Hanner Fieldhouse.
