SCHEDULEÂ |Â March to the Mountains Campaign
STATESBORO - The Georgia Southern rifle squad will open its 2018-19 campaign on Sunday, taking on host and 20th-ranked North Georgia and No. 17 Morehead State at the Col. Raymond C. Hamilton Rifle Range in Dahlonega, Georgia. Action begins at 8 a.m. with the squads participating in both the USA Shooting 60-shot 3x20 small bore and 60-shot air rifle disciplines.
The scores from Saturday's UNG/MSU match will be factored into Sunday's UNG/GS match to determine the tri-match results.
Morehead finished the 2017-18 season ranked 17th in the country by the CRCA while North Georgia finished ranked 20th and as SoCon champions. The Eagles finished last season ranked 22nd in the country.
Georgia Southern returns three strong veterans in seniors
Courtney Weekley and
Rosemary Kramer, along with redshirt junior
Lydia Odlin. Head coach
Sandra Worman also welcomes three freshmen in
Caroline Brakeville,
Emily Christopoul and
Rachel Gray to the squad.
"This will be a tough test for us opening up the season against two squads that finished ranked higher than us last season," Worman said. "It's the first event and we'll have some freshmen competing for the first time, but we'll find out a lot about our squad on Sunday. This is a team sport, but our upperclassmen are looking to take advantage of every opportunity they have to prepare for the NCAA qualifier and I'm looking forward to seeing what they bring Sunday. Our freshmen are going to be wide-eyed, but I'm excited about getting them on the range in a collegiate competition to see where they stack up."
A live feed of the stats is scheduled to run throughÂ
North Georgia's Rifle Facebook Page.
