Fisk Named Semifinalist for Jack Nicklaus Player of the Year Award

The finalists will be named May 24 and winner announced May 31.

NORMAN, Okla. – Georgia Southern junior Steven Fisk has been named a semifinalist for the Division I Jack Nicklaus National Player of the Year Award, it was announced today.

Fisk is currently ranked 21st by Golfstat, has shot 72 or better in 25 of 30 rounds this season and finished in the top-10 in seven of 10 events, including three top-5s and two wins. He was named to the Haskins Award Watch List and the Ben Hogan Award Watch List and spent a majority of the season ranked in the top-10 for the U.S. Palmer Cup team.

Named Sun Belt Golfer of the Week three times this season, Fisk became the 13th player in college golf history to shoot 60, reaching the mark in the second round of the Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational in October, and he narrowly missed a 16-footer for birdie on his final hole for 59. His 60 was a school and course record, and he followed that round with a 67 to tie for third. Fisk shot 65 in the final round of the Sun Belt Conference Championship to help the Eagles advance to match play and won his semifinal match to lead GS into the finals.

Division I finalists for the award will be named May 24, and Nicklaus Award recipients will be announced May 31 with the honor presented by Jack Nicklaus at a ceremony during the final round of the Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide at Muirfield Village Golf Club.

In addition to receiving the Jack Nicklaus National Player of the Year Award, the five recipients will compete in the Barbasol Shootout for an exemption into the PGA TOUR's Barbasol Championship, held July 16-22, at the Champions at Keene Trace in Lexington, Kentucky. The Barbasol Shootout will be held Saturday, June 2 at the storied Scioto Country Club in Columbus, Ohio - the same club where Jack Nicklaus first learned the game of golf as a young boy.
