Ramos won all three games of the Eagles' weekend sweep of Appalachian State, not giving up a run
STATESBORO, Ga. - Georgia Southern softball righthander Kaylee Ramos has been named the Sun Belt Conference's co-Pitcher of the Week, announced today by league officials. She is the first Eagle pitcher to earn Sun Belt weekly honors since joining the league in 2015.
Ramos led Georgia Southern to its first Sun Belt Conference sweep of the season by winning all three games in the circle of the series win over Appalachian State over the weekend. She won both of Saturday's games in relief, hurling 2/3rds of an inning of shutout ball in the 8-7 come-from-behind win in game one of the doubleheader, then pitching three innings of one-hit relief, striking out three, in the 12-9 nightcap victory over the Mountaineers.
Sunday, Ramos got the start and responded with her first collegiate shutout, carrying a no-hitter into the sixth inning and finishing her first collegiate shutout with a four-hitter, walking one while striking out three. For the weekend, Ramos went 3-0 with an 0.00 ERA in 10 2/3 innings of work, giving up six hits and striking out six. The Sugar Hill, Ga., native is the first Georgia Southern pitcher to win all three games of a conference series since Breanna Streetmon beat Elon three times on May 1-2, 2010.
"Kaylee has continued to improve throughout the year and has really excelled in her role for this program," Head Coach Kim Dean said. "She had three outstanding outings for us in a really important conference series sweep over Appalachian State. The award is well deserved and I'm very proud that she earned this honor."
Ramos shares the weekly honor with Annie Willis of Troy. Georgia State's Ivie Drake was named the Sun Belt Player of the Week.
The Eagles are in action on Friday and Saturday, May 4-5, wrapping up the 2018 regular season with a three-game Sun Belt series at Georgia State. Friday's game is at 6 p.m. and Sunday's doubleheader will be at 1 p.m.
