NEW ORLEANS – Georgia Southern guard Tookie Brown has been named Sun Belt Player of the Week, the league announced today.
It's his fourth career Sun Belt Player of the Week award and the second this season.
Brown averaged 23 points, eight assists and seven rebounds in a 2-0 week that saw the Eagles capture the third seed in the upcoming Sun Belt Championship. The junior guard collected 18 points, eight assists and eight rebounds against South Alabama and tallied 28 points, eight assists and six boards against Troy, the 39th time with 20-plus points in his career.
Brown was named first-team All-Sun Belt for the third straight season earlier today. He is the 17th player in the 42-year history of the Sun Belt to earn first-team accolades in three seasons and becomes the first Eagle to accomplish the feat in Georgia Southern history.
Georgia Southern reached 20 wins for the second time in four years and joined Louisiana and UTA as the only three Sun Belt schools to reach double-digit conference wins in each of the last four seasons.
The Eagles will meet the winner of No. 6 ULM vs. No. 11 Arkansas State Friday, March 9, at 8:30 p.m. ET on ESPN3 in this week's Sun Belt Championship. The Warhawks and Red Wolves face off Wednesday, March 7, at 8:30 p.m. ET.
