Women’s Golf Sits in Ninth at Spring Break Shootout

Eagles play the third and final round tomorrow.
DADE CITY, Fla. – Natalie Petersen shot an even-par 72 in the first round, and Ella Ofstedahl carded a 73 to lead the Eagles in the second as the Georgia Southern women's golf team is in ninth place after two rounds of the Spring Break Shootout Monday at Lake Jovita Country Club.
GS is one stroke behind Oakland in eighth and nine back of Little Rock in fifth. Tournament host Western Kentucky leads the field, followed by Jacksonville, Florida Gulf Coast and Florida Atlantic.
Petersen shot 72-81=153 and is tied for 19th, and Julianna Collett finished with a 75-81=156 and is tied for 32nd with Ofstedahl, who carded 83-73=156. Ansley Bowman shot 80-78=158, and Sarah Noonan finished with a 79-81=160.
The story – Rd. 1
Petersen started on the second hole and made par on her first four. The freshman birdied 9 and 10 before running off five consecutive pars. She added a birdie on 18 to shoot 35 on the back nine.
Collett began the day on the second hole and posted five straight pars. The sophomore made birdie on 13 and 14, part of a stretch of eight holes she played 1-under.
The story – Rd. 2
Ofstedahl started on the first hole and played her first three 1-under with a birdie on 3. The sophomore made par on 12 consecutive holes and added a par on 18 to shoot even on the front and 1-over on the back.
Bowman led the team with three birdies in the round and played the final six holes of the day even.
