Eagles Clipped Against FGCU

Eagles fall to FGCU in final match of the weekend

STATESBORO, Ga. – In the final match of the weekend for the Eagles, the Georgia Southern men's tennis team took on the Eagles of Florida Gulf Coast. The Blue and White fell to the Eagles 7-0 and will look for their first win of the season next weekend against Clemson and The Citadel.

Florida Gulf Coast started quick winning the doubles point with victories on courts one and two. The Blue and White looked to flip the script in heading into singles play. After dropping the first set 6-3, Stefano Di Aloy fought back to win the second set 4-6. He was unable to finish out the third set and was defeated by Felipe Ramirez.

Diego Finkelstein fought all evening long in both sets he played. In the first set he fell 7-6 in a tiebreaker and 7-5 in the second set. Florida Gulf Coast continued to keep the pressure on winning first sets on all six courts, including two tiebreak first sets. The Blue and White continued to battle pressing the second sets to even, before giving up points on courts two, five, and six. The three victories on these courts allowed Florida Gulf Coast to clinch the match.

WHAT HEAD COACH SANDER KONING SAID
"FGCU played very well today. It's very similar to what happened against Miami. They started out fast and aggressive and we were playing catchup. Diego and Stefano showed some good fight. Stefano played on a very high level today and unfortunately he wasn't able to play out the third set."
