GS caps the fall season at the AutoTrader Collegiate Classic in its fourth event in four weeks.
The Eagles are the defending champions of the event, where senior Steven Fisk won medalist honors and shot 66-66-65=197, breaking a tournament record and the school record by six strokes. GS also won the team title in 2012, making the Eagles the only two-time winner of the tournament. This will be the Eagles' sixth appearance in the eight-year history of the event.
GS is coming off a second-place outing at the Fighting Irish Classic last week, and Fisk dropped in a 45-foot putt on 18 to claim medalist honors, his third consecutive win and the sixth of his career. The senior shot 64-69-65=198 (-15), the second-lowest three-round total in program history and a stroke off his own mark of 197 at last year's AutoTrader.
With a lineup consisting of one senior, three freshmen and a sophomore, Georgia Southern's three-round total of 818 broke the school record of 822 they set the previous week at The Hummingbird Intercollegiate. The Eagles' team score in each of their last five rounds all rank in the top-15 in school history, including their school record of 266 in the first round at Notre Dame, and they have shot under 275 four times this season.
Sophomore Avery Price shot a 62 in the first round of the Fighting Irish Classic, the second-lowest in school history to Fisk's 60 in Hawaii last October.
GS will use the same lineup as the previous two weeks. Fisk will be making his 39th career start for the Eagles, while freshman Ben Carr and Price make their fifth straight start. Freshmen Mason Williams and Wilson Andress will be in the lineup for the third time this season. Brett Barron and Crawford Simmons will be the individuals this week.
The Eagles have finished in the top-6 in 15 of their last 20 tournaments, dating back to the 2016-17 campaign.
Former GS assistant coach Chan Metts, who was named the head coach at Western Kentucky during the summer, brings his Hilltopper squad to the event.
The Eagles will be paired with James Madison and Samford for the first two rounds and will tee off holes 7-10 in a shotgun start Monday.
