Eagles wrap up impressive campaign
CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Georgia Southern men's golf team wrapped up its 2025-26 season Wednesday at the NCAA Championship Corvallis Regional, finishing the three-day event at Trysting Tree Golf Club.
For Georgia Southern, it was the program's 19th NCAA Regional and 29th total postseason appearance. Prior to the NCAA expanding postseason to include six regional sites in 1989, the Eagles made 10 additional appearances in the NCAA Championship. Southern has now made 12 appearances in the past contested 18 NCAA Championships.
Freshman Trace Carter produced his best day in his maiden NCAA Championship, shooting a 72 to lead the way. Thomas Horne had three birdies on the day, including one on his final hole of the tournament.
Parker Claxton finished the tournament at even par to lead the Eagles. He finished his distinguished career with the fourth-lowest career stroke average in program history at 71.94, four all-conference honors and seven top-five finishes. Also concluding their careers were Edouard Cereto and Ian Glanton. Cereto finished his two-year career with a 73.33 stroke average and Glanton had three top-20 finishes in his five seasons in Statesboro.
As a team, the Eagles won three stroke-play events and earned runner-up honors at the Schenkel Invitational. The 265 shot as a team at the Johnnie-O is tied for the second-lowest score in program history. The Eagles also carded four of the top 11 low three-round totals in program history.
Words From Coach Carter Collins:
"Our season started in September in Myrtle Beach and it ended in Oregon at NCAA Regionals. This team will forever have a special place in my heart. Not just because of all the great things they accomplished, but how they accomplished it. They truly fought as a group, for each other and for Georgia Southern. They reset the culture of our program to such a healthy place. They had tons of success this year and have so much should be proud of. The future is extremely bright. Hail Southern!"
