CASHIERS, N.C. – Ben Carr shot a pair of 68s, and
Wilson Andress posted 69-67 to stake the Georgia Southern men's golf team to a lead after two rounds of The Hummingbird Intercollegiate Monday at the Country Club of Sapphire Valley.
The Eagles (-18) shot 272 as a team in the second round, one shy of the school record set in the 1980 Gator Invitational. The mark also set a tournament record, topping Appalachian State's 273 in 2011.
GS, which has three freshmen, a sophomore and a senior in the lineup this week, has a nine-shot lead over second-place Wofford (-9), and Chattanooga is in third (-6).
Carr and Andress are both tied for third, one shot behind the leaders.
Steven Fisk shot 67 in the second round and is tied for eighth, and
Mason Williams is tied for 17th along with
Luukas Alakulppi, who is competing as an individual.

The story
The Eagles took advantage of the Par 5s, combining to play them 16-under, led by eagles by Carr and Fisk on the 14th hole. GS also leads the field in par-3 scoring, par-4 scoring and in birdies with 43.
Carr made six birdies in the second round and shot four under on his final 12 holes of the day. The freshman played his first 13 holes 4-under in the morning, including the eagle at the 482-yard, par-5 14th.
Andress shot 2-under on his final 11 holes of the morning and made six birdies in the afternoon, playing his final nine holes 3-under.
Fisk shot 4-under on his final 13 holes of the afternoon round and played his final five holes of the morning 3-under, including the eagle at 14.
