BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Georgia Southern men's golf team fired the fourth-lowest score of the second round to move up two spots and sits in sixth place after 36 holes of the Shoal Creek Invitational Monday at Shoal Creek Country Club.
Steven Fisk (-2) shot 71-70=141 and is in a five-way tie for fifth, and
Archer Price (E) is tied for 15th after shooting 72-72=144.
The Eagles (+2) are two shots behind Ole Miss (E) in fifth. Wake Forest (-9) leads the field, followed by Notre Dame (-5), UAB (-4) and Liberty (-3).
Luukas Alakulppi shot 77-70=147,
Brett Barron posted 78-71=149 and
Jake Storey carded 75-75=150. Individual
Crawford Simmons shot 74-73=147, and
Jacob Bayer, making his collegiate debut, posted 75-79=154.
The story – Rd. 2
The Eagles teed off on the first three holes on the back nine in a shotgun, continuous play start. Fisk birdied hole 14 and played his first seven holes 1-under and shot 2-under on the front with birdies on holes 1, 6 and 9.
Alakulppi birdied the first two holes of the round and played his final 13 holes 2-under with birdies on holes 2 and 6. Barron made four birdies in a six-hole stretch and played his final three holes 1-under.
Price played eight holes in the middle of the round 3-under and parred his last four holes, and Storey played the first 10 holes of the round 1-under.
The story – Rd. 1
After a pair of bogeys on the back nine, Fisk played his final 12 holes 3-under, including birdies on his last two holes of the round.
Price played the front nine 1-under and made par or better on a stretch of 16 holes, including birdies on holes 16 and 1. Storey started his day with seven straight pars and made two birdies in the round, including one on his final hole.
Simmons tied Fisk for the team lead with three birdies in the round and played the final five holes 3-under, while Bayer finished his round with six consecutive pars.
