QUICK HITS
- Georgia Southern opens the final two weeks of the 2017 regular season this week with a trip to face Kennesaw State on Wednesday night in Cobb County. First pitch is set for 7 pm at Kennesaw's Stillwell Baseball Stadium.
- Georgia Southern took a series win over Louisiana on Sunday with a 9-1 thrashing of the Ragin' Cajuns. Seth Shuman picked up his fifth win of the season as the Eagles pounded five home runs in the game including an inside the park job from Jordan Wren.
Georgia Southern took an 8-4 win over the Owls on April 11th to improve to 13-10 all-time against Kennesaw State. The Eagles won both games last season with a 4-1 win on April 26th at Kennesaw State.
- The Georgia Southern offense in 2017 has been buoyed by the bats of three freshman who have announced their presence with authority.  Mason McWhorter is hitting .319 with four home runs. Steven Curry is hitting .317 from the leadoff spot in the order.  Mitchell Golden is hitting .295 between shortstop and third base.
- Senior right fielder Jordan Wren had a career night at No. 22 Mercer on April 25th. He clobbered a pair of home runs and added a double in a 3-for-5 day. He drove in eight runs, the highest total since Dustin Langley drove in eight on March 6, 1999 against Appalachian State. He was just one RBI shy of tying Mark Strucher's school record which was set in 1978.
- Georgia Southern Baseball has truly been at home on the road over the last three seasons, winning 12-straight conference road series. After dropping their first Sun Belt road series at Troy in 2015, the Eagles have taken 12-straight weekends away from Statesboro. The Eagles dropped the opener at Louisiana 3-0, but rallied for a 6-5 win on Saturday before taking the finale 9-1. The Eagles have dropped the opener in their last three weekend series this season.
- In 2017 Georgia Southern has done well to hold on to their leads. The Eagles are 24-0 when leading after six innings, 23-0 when leading after seven and 26-0 when leading after eight. The Eagle bullpen has blown just one save this year, but came back to take that win in 11 innings.
- Six has been the magic number over the last four years for Georgia Southern Baseball with a 93-10 record when scoring six or more runs. The Eagles are 25-3 this season with six or more and haven't dropped a game when scoring six since March 18th in a 19-6 loss to South Alabama.
- After a late night return from Louisiana, Georgia Southern rose early on May 8th to celebrate the graduation of four Eagles. Adam Kelly, Colt Ramsey, Evan Challenger and Anthony Paesano were awarded their degrees in a special commencement ceremony at Bishop Fieldhouse, officiated by University Provost Dr. Jean Bartels.
- Georgia Southern Head Coach Rodney Hennon has consistently reached the 30 win mark in his career, crossing the threshold 19 times in his 20 total seasons and 17 of 18 years at Georgia Southern. The Eagles have twice reached 42 overall wins in 2001 (42-20) and 2009 (42-17).
- The 2017 Sun Belt Tournament is coming to Statesboro starting on May 23, 2017. The new format features two play in games that pit the No. 7 and No. 10 seeds and the No. 8 and No. 9 seeds for the final spots in the field of eight.
