MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. –
Ansley Bowman carded a 74, and the Georgia Southern women's golf team sits in eighth place after the first round of the Sun Belt Championship Monday at The Fighting Joe Course at The Shoals.
Texas State (-3) leads the field, followed by Troy (-1), and Little Rock (+3) is third. The Eagles are two shots back of Coastal Carolina in seventh and 10 behind sixth-place Appalachian State.
Bowman (+2) is tied for 14th, and
Iben Hvass (+4) is tied for 26th after notching a 76.
Lauren Coe shot 78,
Taylor Thompson shot 81 and
Ella Ofstedahl carded an 85.
The story
Bowman played her first seven holes 1-under with a birdie on 3, and the sophomore played her final six holes 1-under with a birdie on 18.
Hvass birdied the first hole and was even through hole 7. The senior parred five straight holes to start the back nine and birdied the par-5, 483-yard 17th hole.
Coe got off to a tough start but parred eight of nine holes to shoot 37 on the back.

"Our goal today was to commit to each shot, to trust and fire aggressively at our smart targets and to trust our speed on these greens. Unfortunately, we struggled a bit out of the gates today. Our back nine was a little better, but we have some work to do the next two days."
"Ansley hung in there all day and was low for us. Iben and Lauren have some fire after today, and I am looking forward to seeing their bounce back tomorrow on moving day. Ella and Taylor got some 'back in competition' nerves out of the way today, and we are looking to them the next two days to play some great golf."

The Eagles tee off hole 10 at 9:40 a.m. ET in tomorrow's second round. Georgia Southern is paired with Coastal Carolina.
