QUICK HITS
- Georgia Southern Baseball is back on the road for the first time in Sun Belt play, traveling to UT Arlington for a three game series. The Eagles visited the Mavericks last season and took the final two games of the Friday-Saturday series which was shortened due to rain.
-
Seth Shuman improved to 3-0 as a starter as the Eagles took a 1-0 win over The Citadel to close out the midweek double. The Eagles managed just three hits and struck out 18 times in the game to post season lows and highs in each category, respectively.
- The Eagles are 5-2 all-time against the Mavericks and have won three games in a row. The Eagles dropped the opener, but
Chase Cohen threw a complete game, two-hit shutout to even the series. The Eagles took the finale 10-6. The teams met again in the Sun Belt Tournament, playing a rain-affected game. Cohen got the start, but when the rains came in the third inning, a change was made.
Landon Hughes came on and pitched seven innings of no-hit relief, striking out nine en route to the 6-0 win.
- The Georgia Southern offense in 2017 has been buoyed by the bats of three freshman who have announced their presence with authority.
Mitchell Golden is hitting .364 between shortstop and third base to lead the team at the plate.
Mason McWhorter is hitting .314 in 17 starts with six doubles.
Steven Curry is hitting .360 at second base.
- Senior
Adam Kelly picked up his first collegiate win on March 21st at The Citadel. Normally a reliever, Kelly was kept on a controlled start, working four innings, allowing two hits and one run.
- Sophomore
Brian Eichhorn tossed his best career outing in game two against Elon, dealing for seven innings in arctic conditions to close out the doubleheader. The righty worked around two hits and fanned 12 batters to pick up his first win of the season from his second quality start. He was the first pitcher since Sam Howard in 2014 to strike out 12 batters in a game.
- Freshman
Seth Shuman improved to 3-0 as a starting pitcher on March 22nd with five innings of two-hit shutout ball. He struck out a career-high six in the Eagles' 1-0 win. The righty is the most experienced returning quarterback for the Eagles football team and was a 39th round pick by Baltimore in the 2016 draft. Eagle football opened spring practice on March 9th.
- Senior shortstop
Evan McDonald missed nine games after being hit in the helmet by a foul ball while in the on deck circle in the finale of the Georgia series. He returned to the lineup on March 17th against South Alabama, returning to his position at shortstop. He has four hits in the last five games entering the UT Arlington series.
- In the win over College of Charleston, the Eagles "broke" the new manual scoreboard by tallying 19 hits (two more than the scoreboard had numbers for). Since then, Georgia Southern's partner Whitfield Signs created additional signs before the South Alabama series, allowing a maximum of 21 hits or runs to be displayed on the scoreboard.
- The 2017 Sun Belt Tournament is coming to Statesboro starting on May 23, 2017. The new format features two play in games that pit the No. 7 and No. 10 seeds and the No. 8 and No. 9 seeds for the final spots in the field of eight.

The Eagles close out their four game road swing on Tuesday with a trip to the College of Charleston. Georgia Southern is home next weekend for a series with UL Monroe.
