STATESBORO, Ga. -Â The Georgia Southern softball team dropped a non-conference game to College of Charleston on Wednesday evening. The Eagles fell to 13-14 on the season and will look to rebound this weekend in Sun Belt action at UT Arlington.
The Cougars struck quickly, scoring four throughout the first two innings of play. The Eagles were able to respond in the bottom of the second with an RBI single from
India Davis and two-run single from
Lydia Witkowski, cutting the deficit to one heading into the third.
Morgan Robinson knocked a solo homerun off of the batting cages in right field to start off the bottom of the third inning, tying the score at four. The game remained tied until the Cougars bats came alive again in the fifth with a two-run single down the left field line, plating two and taking a 6-4 lead.
The Cougars extended their lead by two more runs in the sixth on a passed ball and RBI single.
India Davis responded for GS by scoring in the bottom of the sixth inning, but College of Charleston was able to tack on another two runs in the seventh and finish the game with a 10-5 lead.Â
Dixie Raley (7-9) picked up the loss, throwing the first inning and coming back in for the seventh for Georgia Southern.
Kierra Camp, Amanda Chambers and
Heather Felt all pitched in the contest, Camp recorded four strikeouts through four innings of work.
The Eagles will look to rebound this weekend as they head to Arlington, Texas, for a three-game Sun Belt Conference set at UT Arlington. GS (3-3 SBC) will play UTA (2-4 SBC) in a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1 p.m Central (2 p.m. ET) and then face off again on Sunday in a single game at 12 p.m. Central (1 p.m. ET).
