STATESBORO, Ga. – On Saturday afternoon the Eagles began Sun Belt Conference play against UT-Arlington. The reigning conference champs would defeat the Eagles 4-3 in a close well played match by both sides. The Mavericks jumped out to an early 1-0 lead taking the doubles point.
Stefano Di Aloy,
Dani Casablancas, and
Diego Finkelstein defeated their opponents and helped the Eagles get on the board during singles play. Senior Daniel Armengol gave UTA the victory defeating
Santiago Suarez 6-2, 6-7(4), 6-1 in a third set. The Eagles will now travel to Birmingham, Alabama to face off against UAB on Friday and Sun Belt Conference opponent Troy.Â

"We lost a close one today against the reigning conference champs," Head coach
Sander Koning said. "We showed that we can hang with them and push them. It comes down to making one or two adjustments. Overall this trip has shown us we have to get more disciplined in doubles. We are giving the doubles point away too easy. It's more a matter of going back to fundamentals more than anything else. We have a week to get ready for two tough matches on the road."
