Georgia Southern Takes Walk-Off Win over Georgia

A Bulldog error on Tarez Miller's sacrifice bunt hands Georgia Southern the win

STATESBORO, GA. - Georgia Southern Baseball took its second walk-off win of the season on Sunday with a 2-1 victory over Georgia in the series finale. Two errors by the Georgia third baseman allowed C.J. Ballard to score the winning run as Aaron Schunk threw away Tarez Miller's sacrifice bunt to the left side. The College of Charleston comes to Statesboro on Wednesday for a 6 p.m. contest to close out the eight game homestand.

QUOTABLES
Head Coach Rodney Hennon
"It wasn't' pretty, but I'm proud of the guys for hanging in there. We got some good pitching today, particularly from (Connor) Simmons and (Landon) Hughes again. I'm proud of Tarez Miller coming into the game in a tough spot and he did his job for the team, putting down a couple of sacrifice bunts in some key situations. C.J. Ballard made some things happen off the bench, but we've got a lot of things to work on to get ready for the week ahead, starting with College of Charleston on Wednesday."

CRUICIAL MOMENTS
Top 4th - GS 0 - UGA 1
- Georgia got a hit and a walk with two outs to put two runners on for LJ Talley. The sophomore hit a ball up the middle which took a wicked hop and got past shortstop Evan McDonald. Keegan McGovern scored to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.
Bot 7th - GS 1 - UGA 1 - As leadoff pinch hitter C.J. Ballard was batting, on-deck hitter Evan McDonald was hit by a foul ball, forcing a 20 minute delay while the senior was attended to. After McDonald was taken from the field in an ambulance, Ballard doubled to the gap in left and scored on Logan Baldwin's ground ball to first. The throw came home in time to retire Ballard, but the ball was dropped by the catcher.
Bot 9th - GS 2 - UGA 1 - Ballard got the ninth inning started with a ground ball to third which was thrown away by Schunk, allowing Ballard to reach second. Miller dropped his second bunt of the game to the left side. The ball was again thrown away, allowing Ballard to score the winning run.

GAME NOTES
- Evan McDonald, who was struck by a foul ball in the seventh inning, left the field in an ambulance. Due to federal law (HIPAA), Georgia Southern Athletics cannot comment on his condition.
