Georgia Southern plays its third tournament of the spring Feb. 26-28 at the Edwin Watts Kiawah Island Spring Classic, the largest collegiate tournament in the country. It's the third tourney of the spring for the Eagles, who kicked off the season with a third-place finish at the Texas State Invitational and followed that with a seventh-place outing at the Amelia Island Collegiate last week.
GS will go with the same lineup as the first two tournaments. Â
Hvass has been in the lineup for all 16 tournaments of her Georgia Southern career, while Macioce will make her 15th start. Shin gets the nod for the 14th time in her career. Senior transfer Lauren Coe has been in the lineup for every tournament this season, and Bowman will make her fifth start of the year.
Macioce shot a school record 68 in the final round of the Amelia Collegiate and finished eighth for her second top-10 outing in a row. Coe posted a 70-69 in the final two rounds to tie for 21st for her third top-25 finish of the season. Macioce ranked third in the tournament in par-4 scoring at 2-under, and Coe's 11 birdies were tied for the fifth most.
After three straight tournaments to start the spring, the Eagles get a couple weeks off before traveling to the WKU-USMÂ Spring Break Shootout in Dade City, Fla. It will be the Eagles' third tournament in Florida this season.
Tournament Notes
Tabbed as the largest collegiate golf tournament in the country, the 2017 edition of the Edwin Watts / Kiawah Island Spring Classic has expanded to 43 teams in this year's field and will be played for the third time in its history at Osprey Point at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort on Kiawah Island, S.C. Two courses are used for the three-day, 54-hole tournament including Oak Point. After 36 holes of play, the Top 22 teams will play for the championship at Osprey Point during the final round, while teams 23-43 will play for a flight championship at Oak Point. Last year, Coastal Carolina won the team title (+7), while Chattanooga's Emily McLennan and Troy's Fatima Cano tied for individual medalist honors (-6).
