BATON ROUGE, La. - The Georgia Southern softball team dropped a pair of games Saturday at the Purple & Gold Challenge, falling 6-1 to Central Arkansas before suffering a 10-1 setback in five innings to No. 7 LSU.Â
UCA 6, GS 1
Morgan Robinson got the Eagles on the board in the bottom of the first inning, driving in
India Davis with a single through the left side. That would be all the Eagles would get as the bats were silenced by UCA's Kayla Gomness.
In the sixth inning,
Dixie Raley ran into trouble, allowing five runs on four hits, but was victimized by two GS errors, to allow the Bears (2-5) to take their first lead of the game.
Heather Felt ran into trouble of her own, allowing a run on a bases-loaded wild pitch, a sacrifice fly and a single as the Bears erupted for six runs in the frame.
Robinson, Hannah Ferrell and freshman
Abby Broome had the only hits for Georgia Southern while
Haley Carter stole a base.
In the circle, Raley (L, 2-3) went 5.1 innings, allowing five runs (one earned) on seven hits with three walks and six strikeouts. Felt got just one out before being relieved by
Kierra Camp. Felt gave up an unearned run on a hit with two walks.
#7 LSU 10, GS 1 (5 Inn.)
LSU scored a pair of runs in the first inning and then put up four-spots in both the second and third innings to break the game open.
GS finally got the bats rolling in the fifth inning when
Lydia Witkowski ripped a two-out double to the gap to plate
Shelby Wilson.
Freshman
Mekhia Freeman had two for the Eagles, a double in the third inning and a single in the seventh inning. Witkowski had a double and
Macy Weeks drew a walk.
Camp (L, 0-2) got the start for the Eagles. Also seeing time in the circle were
Kaylee Ramos,
Heather Felt and
Amanda Chambers.
