STATESBORO, Ga. - Georgia Southern men's soccer freshman Aldair Cortes has been named the Sun Belt Conference's Co-Defensive Player of the Week, announced today by league officials.
Cortes tallied a goal and played all 90 minutes at left back for the Eagles in their 2-1 win over Jacksonville University on Wednesday. The goal was the second of the season for the Cairo, Ga., native and the match was the fourth straight in which he has played all 90 minutes for Georgia Southern.
Georgia Southern has won four of its last five contests, and hosts in-state rival Georgia State this weekend in its next action. The defensive weekly honor is the first for Cortes and the second for the Eagles as fellow freshman Gonzalo Talavera was the league's honoree on Sept. 19.
