Eagles Clipped by North Florida on Tuesday Night

Georgia Southern will get a chance for revenge on Wednesday night in Statesboro

JACKSONVILLE, FLA. – Georgia Southern Baseball came out on the short end of a 13-4 result on Tuesday night at North Florida. The Ospreys won game one of the two day series with 20 hits and runs in each of the first four innings, including a five-spot in the third. Georgia Southern will welcome North Florida at Statesboro on Wednesday night for a 6 p.m. game at J.I. Clements Stadium.
 

CRUCIAL MOMENTS
BOTTOM 1ST
– A single and a double got the Ospreys in business to start the game, putting ducks on the pond for the middle of the UNF lineup. The Ospreys scored two in the opening frame.
BOTTOM 2ND – UNF tacked on another run with a single through the left side to make it 3-0 for the home side.
BOTTOM 3RD – The Ospreys added five runs in the third to blow the game open off five hits to make it an 8-0 UNF lead.
TOP 4TH – Ryan Cleveland got the Eagles on the scoreboard with a solo home run to the gap in left. It was his 12th of the season which moves him into second in the Sun Belt, two out of first place.
BOTTOM 4TH – Two runs off three hits and an Eagle error made it 10-1 for the Ospreys.
TOP 5TH – The Eagles got another run back in the fifth, taking advantage of two UNF errors by the second baseman. Logan Baldwin beat out a double play bid with one out and the bases loaded. Matt Anderson came in to score.
TOP 6TH – An RBI single up the middle from Will Hudgins sent Hunter Thomas in for a run in the sixth to make it a 10-3 game.
BOTTOM 6TH – UNF added a two-out run in the sixth with a bases loaded walk, extending the lead to 11-3.
TOP 7TH – Jordan Wren picked up an RBI in the seventh, grounding out to first with the bases loaded. The Eagles had two aboard with one out, but a line out to third turned into a double play on a bang-bang play.
BOTTOM 7TH – A double down the line by UNF in the seventh sent two runs in and made it a 13-4 game.

NOTES
- North Florida tagged 20 hits in the game including five from Alex Merritt and four from Kyle Brooks.
- The Georgia Southern offense got hits from each of the top four hitters in the lineup. Ultimately, the Eagles tallied six hits and were the beneficiary of five North Florida errors.
