Women's tennis dropped 4-1 in New Orleans
NEW ORLEANS- In a 4-1 result, the Georgia Southern women's tennis team was cut short from advancing in the Sun Belt Championships on Friday after facing fifth-seeded Troy. Although the Eagles beat the Trojans two weeks prior, they were unable to replicate the same success in New Orleans.
The Blue and White started from behind at the City Park Pepsi Tennis Center after losing the doubles point at lines two and three.
In singles, Giulia Riepe, who was named to the Sun Belt's All-Conference Second Team, tied things up by winning her No.1 match 6-2, 6-3 against Jiayuan Xue. However, the Trojans picked up steam and clinched the match over wins from lines four through six.
Mariana Ranzahuer and Lindsay Truscott at the No.2 and 3 positions left their matches unfinished. Ranzahuer was fighting from behind 4-6, 2-5 while Truscott was battling into the third set after losing in the second.
The Eagles finished the season with a 12-9 spring record under head coach Michele Stanford.
