ARLINGTON, TEXAS – Georgia Southern Baseball was shutout for the first time this season, dropping game one of the three-game series, 4-0, to the UT Arlington Mavericks. Georgia Southern and UT Arlington will play a Saturday doubleheader to close out the series with bad weather expected on Sunday.
SCORING RECAPS
BOTTOM 4TH – A fielding error by the Eagles with two outs gave the Mavericks second life, resulting in runners on the corners. UTA delivered with back-to-back RBI singles to take a 2-0 lead with the unearned runs.
BOTTOM 6TH – UT Arlington opened the sixth with a pair of singles and advanced both runners into scoring position with two outs. A bases clearing triple, however, drove in two runs to extend the home side's advantage to 4-0.
NOTES
- Georgia Southern tallied three hits in the game, with two going for extra bases. Evan McDonald laced a leadoff double in the first while Ryan Cleveland got a double in the fourth.
- The three-hit total was the Eagles fewest hits since posting two in the series finale at Georgia in the third game of the year.
- Evan Challenger went 6.2 innings, allowing seven hits and four runs, two earned. He struck out three and didn't walk a batter to fall to 4-3 and snap a string of two-straight no decisions.
- The Eagles were shutout for the first time since April 7, 2015 when the Eagles were blanked 11-0 by the College of Charleston.
NEXT GAME
Georgia Southern and UT Arlington close out the series with a Saturday doubleheader at Clay Gould Ballpark. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. (CT)/3 p.m. (ET). The change comes due to a poor weather forecast for Sunday in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.
