After two weeks off from competition, Georgia Southern travels just over an hour up the road to Aiken, S.C., home of the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Invitational. The 54-hole tournament takes place at the Palmetto Golf Club, recognized as the oldest golf course in the United States.
It's the second event of the spring for the Eagles, who tied for 10th at the Gator Invitational in February in their first tournament of 2016. Freshman Steven Fisk led the Eagles with an even-par 70-70-70=210, good enough to tie for 19th.
Fisk, Jake Storey and Henry Mabbett are back in the lineup after playing in the Gator. Archer Price and Cody O'Toole, who led the Eagles in scoring average in the fall, will get their first starts of the spring this week.
"Preparations have been good for this upcoming event in Aiken," Head Coach Carter Collins said. "Palmetto Golf Club is a great, old-style course, and we are looking forward to competing."
The Eagles played in the event last season and placed eighth of 18 teams. Storey (74-71-73=218, +8), and Archer Price (70-76-72=218, +8) both played in the tournament as freshman.
The Eagles will be paired with USC Aiken and Francis Marion and tee off on holes 16-18 at 8:30 a.m.
