QUICK HITS• The Eagles enter round three of Sun Belt play ranked third at 4-2 behind a pair of teams with perfect 6-0 league marks (South Alabama - Texas State). Arkansas State is tied for seventh with UT Arlington at 2-4 following trips to UT Arlington and Georgia State.
• The Eagles visit Arkansas State for the first time in a series that began last season. The Eagles won two of three in the regular season games in Statesboro, but saw their season end to the Red Wolves in the Sun Belt Tournament, 6-1.
• The Eagles have won their last four road games including a sweep over Appalachian State. The Eagles also defeated Mercer on March 15th, 11-10 to extend the road winning streak.
• Georgia Southern is on the heels of a series defeat to Troy in Statesboro. The Trojans won the opener 2-1, but the Eagles battled back to ace Troy 7-0 behind shutdown pitching from
Chase Cohen and co. In the series finale, five errors doomed the Eagles in an 8-4 loss to Troy.
• The Eagles are scheduled to fly back to Statesboro on Saturday night following the series finale. A midweek game on Wednesday, March 30th closes a four-game road swing before Texas State comes to Statesboro for their first J.I. Clements Stadium experience.
EAGLES PARTNERING WITH VS. CANCER FOUNDATION• Georgia Southern Baseball will join with the Vs. Cancer Foundation to raise money to end childhood cancer on Sunday, April 3rd following the Texas State series finale.
• The Eagles will shave their heads as a team following the game while fans are encouraged to donate to the cause at
http://team.vs-cancer.org/georgiasouthernEVAN MCDONALD'S ON A TEAR, EI-EI-O• Junior shortstop
Evan McDonald has catapulted himself into the conversation as one of the Eagles top hitters with an 11-game hit streak that has taken him from a sub-.100 hitter to .304 entering the Arkansas State series.
• McDonald is 16-for-39 on his current streak (.410) including his first home run as a member of the Eagles.
• At Appalachian State he entered the weekend with five hits in the season's first 13 games. He went 5-for-11 in that series to jump-start the streak.
COMING UP NEXTFollowing the three-game league series, Georgia Southern visits Georgia Tech for the second game between the squads this year. The Yellow Jackets took the 16-inning marathon 6-5 on February 24th. The return trip is scheduled for Wednesday, March 30th at 6 p.m. inside Russ Chandler Stadium in Midtown.
