STATESBORO -Â Newly added to the activities of the Spring Football Game this year is the Punt, Pass, and Kick Contest for kids ages 5-12. SCORING/COMPETING1. Each participant is allowed one punt, one pass, and one placekick as part of his or her competition.
2. Participants will work their way down the field consecutively completing each event. After first completing the punt, they will pass the ball from the punt's landing spot. They will do the same for the kick after they pass the ball.Â
3. There will be two rounds. All participants will participate in round 1. The participants with the top 3 scores in each age category by gender in round 1 will advance to round 2.
4. Scores are based on distance and measured in yards. For example, if a participant passes the ball 20 yards, they will receive a score of 20. Participants cannot receive a negative score, but they can receive a score of zero.
5. A participant's final score is his or her cumulative total for the three individual events. For example, if the participant scores 30 for punting, 20 for passing, and 47 for kicking, the participant's final score would be 97.
6. If a participant goes over the line prior to or before releasing or making contact with the ball, he or she is penalized 2 yards. The only exception is in kicking, where a participant may go over the line without penalty, provided the tee is placed on or behind the line.
7. There is no violation if the kicking tee is kicked with the football during the kicking event.
8. Scores are determined from where the participant's punt/pass/kick first makes contact with the ground. Bounces or rolls do not add to the score.
9. If a participant tries to punt, pass, or kick and misses the ball completely, it does not count as an attempt, and another attempt is allowed.
REGULATIONS1. No football shoes, turf shoes, cleats or bare feet are allowed. Only soft-sole gym shoes are permitted. Failure to wear gym shoes results in the disqualification of the participant.
2. All equipment, other than shoes, needed for the competition, are provided by Georgia Southern Athletics. Participants may not utilize their own equipment (such as tees or footballs).
ADVANCEMENT1. There will be two rounds. All participants will participate in round 1. The participantsÂ
with the top 3 scores in each age category by gender in round 1 will advance to round 2.2. The top score in each category by gender will be crowned champion. Each champion will be recognized during the Blue vs. White Spring Football Game and receive a trophy.Â
TIE-BREAKERS1. If a tie exists for first, second, or third place after round 1, each participant involved in the tie competes in a playoff to determine the final standings. The playoff consists of the participants competing head-to-head in a repeat of all three events. The playoff winner will advance to round 2.
2.  If a tie exists for first or second place after round 2, the winner is determined by the contestant's score in round 1. For example, if Bobby and Billy are tied at 105 after round 2, we look at their scores after round 1. Bobby finished with a score of 100 and Billy finished with a score of 98 so Bobby would be the winner.
MISCELLANEOUS1. The competition will be held rain or shine. In threatening or dangerous weather conditions, the competition will be canceled.Â
2. Participation constitutes permission to use competitor's name and likeness for promotional purposes without compensation
3. All participants' parents must sign a Release of Liability on-site April 16 before participating in the competition.Â
