STATESBORO, Ga.- In a clean sweep, the Georgia Southern women's tennis team defeated Florida A&M 7-0 on Saturday at home to improve to 9-5 on the season and 4-3 at the Wallis Tennis Center. The win against the Rattlers is the second one against a Florida team this week as the Eagles topped Bethune-Cookman 4-3 on Wednesday.
Due to possible rain, singles were played first, and the Eagles dominated with all six of them earning points for GS.
"We got off to a slow start today, but our girls did a great job stepping up and turning the majority of the matches around," head coach
Michele Stanford said. "We knew that FAMU would provide tough competition for us, but we remained steady and focused through every game."
All the matches were won in straight sets besides line two where
Mariana Ranzahuer fought back from an early 2-6 deficit to go on and win the next two sets 6-0, 6-1.
"After winning all six singles points, our team came out extremely fired up for doubles and didn't waste any time getting the final point," Stanford said.
All three doubles matches ended in Georgia Southern's favor to cap off the match which earned
Francisca Norregaard a perfect 2-0 record in both singles and doubles this week.
"The doubles play was very aggressive on all three courts, and I know the confidence they built today will carry on into our toughest conference matches this weekend."
