ASHEVILLE, N.C..- Twice in a row, the Georgia Southern men's tennis team outscored their opponent 4-2-- on Friday, taking down UNC Asheville after doing the same to Kennesaw State earlier in the week. The newest triumph pushes the Eagles to 11-5 in spring play.
"We played against a tough UNC-A team. They threw everything at us, and we were able to fend them off," head coach
Sander Koning said. "I have to give credit to the guys; they were faced with a lot of adversity and kept their heads in the game."
Although the Eagles fell behind after doubles, they were able to switch it around in singles.
"In doubles UNC-A played well at the critical points. In singles it was the other way around," Koning said. "The guys played well, stayed in the process and that solidified the match for us."
Four Eagles picked up points for the team including
Rise Lanne (No.1),
Ze Moya (No.3),
Eddie Landin (No.5) and
Andre Johnson (No.6). Moya and Landin won in straight sets, while Lanne and Johnson took their matches to three sets where Johnson ultimately secured the win for the Eagles.
"Overall it was a good team effort, and we are looking forward to next week and continue our momentum," Koning said.
