STATESBORO, Ga.- Â The Georgia Southern cross country team made headlines once again, this time for their academic success. The Eagles were named among the 2015 Academic All-Americans, an accomplishment awarded to NCAA Division I cross country teams with at least a 3.0 GPA.
This past fall, the Blue and White recorded a 3.226 GPA under head coach
Kelly Carter. Within the Sun Belt Conference, only three teams earned higher marks than the Eagles. In total, 205 women's teams received Academic All-American accolades from the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
"This is just another feather in our cross country teams hat," Carter said. "We have outstanding young ladies out there competing with running as well as competing in the classroom, and this award is great for them."
In addition to their awards in the classroom, the cross country team also qualified for their first-ever NCAA Regionals appearance in November of this year.
