The Eagles will compete for the third-straight week to open the spring as they travel to the Edwin Watts Kiawah Island Spring Classic, which features a monster field of 41 teams.

Georgia Southern, a first-year program, is coming off its best finish of the season, a seventh-place outing in the Amelia Island Collegiate last Tuesday. The Eagles shot a 297 in the final round, which tied for the lowest of the day. Iben Hvass shot 5-over for the tournament and placed 10th, her second top-20 finish of the season.

"The team has learned so much from the first two events this spring, and we are looking forward to continuing the momentum and growth at a beautiful place like Kiawah," said Georgia Southern coach Emily Kuhfeld.

Ariana Macioce leads the team with a 76 scoring average, and Hvass is second with a 76.11. Hvass and Yeji Shin have played in every tournament this season. Ansley Bowman makes her sixth start, and Taylor Thompson will make her first start of the spring and fifth this season.

Georgia Southern was recently named the "sleeper" pick in Golfweek's Sun Belt preview.

Following this tournament, the Eagles will have the opportunity to catch their breath before traveling to the GRU Augusta 3M Jaguar Intercollegiate March 11-13.

Tournament Notes
Tabbed as the largest collegiate golf tournament in the country, the 2016 edition of the Edwin Watts / Kiawah Island Spring Classic has expanded to 41 teams in this year's field and will be played for the second time in its history at Osprey Point at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort on Kiawah Island, S.C. Two courses are used for the three-day, 54-hole tournament, including Oak Point. After 36 holes of play, the top-20 teams will play for the championship at Osprey Point during the final round, while teams 21-41 will play for a flight championship at Oak Point. Last year, host College of Charleston won the team title carding a three-round score of 886 (+22), which was the second-lowest 54-hold score in tournament history. North Florida finished second with an 891 (+27) and Stetson finished in third with an 897 (+33). Jessica Welch of Jacksonville claimed individual medalist honors by shooting a final-round 69 for a three-round total of 213 (-3), while Melania Bajo Geijo of Jacksonville State finished as runner-up with a 215 (-1).
