Results | Round 2 Pairings
GREENVILLE, S.C. – Iben Hvass fired a 1-under-par 71 in the first round of the Lady Paladin Invitational Sunday at the Furman University Golf Club, and the junior is tied for third.
Georgia Southern (+18), which is playing in the first tournament in program history, is 10th in the team standings, nine strokes behind fifth-place North Carolina (+9) and three strokes back of Furman (+15) and ETSU, which are tied for seventh.
Clemson (+2) leads the field, followed by New Mexico (+3), Wake Forest (+4) and Missouri (+5). Hvass is tied with three others and one stroke back of Missouri's Michelle Butler (-2), who is in second.
Yeji Shin shot 77, while Taylor Thompson and Ariana Macioce each posted a 79. Annie Swords rounded out the group with an 83.
The storyline
Hvass had a clean card except for one bogey on hole 18. She birdied hole 12 and hole 9, which was her final hole of the day. Shin, Macioce and Thompson each had two birdies in their rounds, and a couple of double bogeys kept Shin from having a better scoring day.
Quotable from Coach Emily Kuhfeld
"Overall, I am happy with our first tournament round. The girls did a good job being committed to their playing focuses, and they learned a lot about their games today. Iben led us today with our first under-par round, and we are looking forward to the next two days and seeing the team continue to learn and grow."
Next Up
The second round is scheduled for tomorrow, and Georgia Southern will tee off hole 10 at 8:51 a.m. The Eagles are paired with Kennesaw State and Samford.
