In his debut tournament as an Eagle, junior transfer Cody O'Toole (-4) shot a 3-under 69 today and finished second in the individual standings, one stroke behind medalist William Rainey (-5) of College of Charleston. Steven Fisk (+2) carded a 74 today and finished tied for fourth in his first collegiate tournament. Fisk tied for the tournament lead in birdies with 14, and O'Toole tied for second with 12. Jake Storey shot a 73 today and tied for 28th, while Archer Price shot a 74 and tied for 25th. Henry Mabbett shot an 83, Andrew Klasing posted an 84 and Jonas Vaisanen carded an 81 as an individual. It was 6-count-4 scoring, meaning six players are in the lineup, and the four lowest scores each round count for the team total.
The storyline
O'Toole birdied three of his first four holes of the day and was 3-under through eight. He bogeyed holes 9 and 10 but recovered nicely and played his final eight holes at 2-under with birdies on holes 14 and 16. Fisk was 2-under through his first 10 holes and a birdie on hole 16 had him even for the day heading to the 18th and looking to take fourth place outright. He scratched out a double bogey on 18 to post the 74. Price posted eight straight pars during his round, and Storey was also solid with two birdies and three bogeys on his card.
Quotable from Coach Carter Collins
"I couldn't be happier to get a win to start the year, especially at The Ocean Course. It's great to see a couple of new faces have some early success in their Georgia Southern career with Cody finishing second and Steven finishing tied for fourth. The Ocean Course is a challenging course that tests every part of your game and for the team to play the way we did today in tough conditions is inspiring for the rest of the year. I'm very proud of the preparation and effort leading up to this event, and I think it paid off, especially today."
