Eagles return just three runners from last year’s squad
STATESBORO, Ga. – The rebuilding process has begun for Georgia Southern cross country with the addition of six student-athletes soon to wear the blue and gold for the first time. Although the Eagles return just three runners from last year's squad, their move to a 10th place ranking in the recently announced Sun Belt Preseason Cross Country Coaches' Poll reflects this strengthened roster.
Head coach Kelly Carter and his staff enter their second season with the program. With the goal to infuse the Georgia Southern Track & Field program with new talent, they brought in a total of 14 freshman, including the six newcomers on the Cross Country squad.
"We are excited about the additions to the cross country program," said Head Coach Kelly Carter. "While we are eager to improve upon past performances we wish to maintain the tradition of excellence left by the former student-athletes. I have little doubt that this group of young women will represent Georgia Southern with pride, to the best of their athletic ability."
The 2015 season starts on Friday, Sept. 4, at the Carolina Classic Invitational in Columbia, S.C. The annual event, hosted by the University of South Carolina, will be run on the grounds of Fort Jackson and looks to once again feature some of the region's top squads.
