Closing Time at Clements, Eagles Host Kennesaw State on ESPN3

STATESBORO, Ga. – The Georgia Southern baseball team returns home for the final contest at J.I. Clements Stadium Tuesday and will host the Kennesaw State Owls on ESPN3.

The Eagles (28-23) won the first meeting against the Owls (26-24) 8-4 behind 16 hits from the offense. Three Eagles hit home runs in the contest and Dalton Busby led all hitters with three hits and scored two runs.

Georgia Southern holds a 10-9 edge in the all-time series and will go for the season series sweep at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.

The Eagles ended a five game losing streak and salvaged a game in the series with a 7-4 win over the Clemson Tigers on Sunday. GS did not play a mid-week contest and lost the first two games to the Tigers 13-5, 5-4.

Ryan Cleveland tallied four hits and drove in five two-out runs to help Georgia Southern rally for a 7-4 win on Sunday. Cleveland recorded four-straight hits after flying out in his first at-bat. The sophomore drove in runs with back-to-back RBI singles and hit a three-run home run in the 9th inning.

Cleveland raised his batting average to .243 and now has 9 home runs on the season after hitting homers in back-to-back games.

The Eagles are hitting .261 as a team. Kody Adams leads the squad with .326 batting average and 13 doubles. Aaron Mizell is hitting .296 with 12 doubles and 12 home runs.

The pitching staff holds a 4.29 ERA. Jason Richman is a team-best 7-1 with a 3.23 ERA and 51 strikeouts in 61.1 innings.

Kennesaw State dropped a weekend series to Jacksonville and has lost four of their last five games. The Owls posted an 11-6 win at Georgia Tech on April 21 and won a series against Lipscomb before dropping mid-week games to Savannah State, Auburn and Georgia State.

KSU is hitting .280 as a team. Chris Erwin leads the squad with a .335 batting average. Erwin has 10 doubles and five home runs to go along with 33 RBI.

The Owls pitching staff has posted a 4.32 ERA. Jordan Hillyer leads their weekend rotation with a 2.28 ERA and a 4-3 record. Closer Will Lowman has six saves in 23 pitching appearances. Lowman is 0-2 with a 3.91 ERA in 23.0 innings pitched.

Despite stepping out of conference play to face ACC foe Clemson, the Eagles moved up in the standings and sit in third place. GS is a game behind Troy and a game ahead of Louisiana.

The Eagles will travel to Georgia State for the final Sun Belt Conference series of the season, which starts on Thursday.
