2015 Sun Belt Conference Championship Central
New Orleans, La. – Georgia Southern Women's Tennis stand-out, Anne Kurzweil, was honored by the league Thursday night as the Sun Belt Conference Women's Tennis Freshman of the Year and also earned a spot on the All-Conference Second Team. The Haldern, Germany native is a flawless 12-0 in singles play this season and enters the tournament riding a nine-match winning streak in singles play. Her and partner Mary Phillips Smith have also garnered 7 wins in doubles play.
In addition to the honor for Kurzweil, the league announced their Player of the Year awards as well as the All-Conference teams at the championship banquet Thursday night. Troy junior Trang Huynh took home Player of the Year honors. The All-Conference teams and individual award winners were determined by a vote of the league's 10 women's tennis head coaches.
The last defeat issued to Kurzweil came way back in October of 2014, as she has blistered through the spring season with a 12-0 singles record. Playing primarily in the No. 3 position, Kurzweil has enjoyed 9 straight-set victories over her opponents, while only 3 of her matches needed a 3rd set to determine a victor. In the final 3 regular season matches of the season, Kurzweil moved up to the No. 2 spot on the team, but still remained victorious to close out her flawless singles run.
The Eagles will open Sun Belt Conference Championship play Friday at City Park / Pepsi Tennis Center in New Orleans against University of Louisian-Monroe at 8 a.m. CST
