Jacksonville, Al. – The Eagles extended their win streak to 4 matches as they cruised to a 6-1 victory over the Gamecocks of Jacksonville State Sunday.
Georgia Southern swept all 3 doubles matches en route to the victory.
Jordana Klein and
Giulia Riepe got the scoring barrage started when they defeated D. Mirceta and Z. Bizines 8-3 in the No. 3 position.
At No. 2 doubles,
Francisca Norregaard and
Daria Vasekina combined to bounce O. Nyugen and D. Kerindi 8-6 to clinch the doubles point for the Eagles. The exclamation point came at No. 1 doubles as
Mary Phillips Smith and
Anne Kurzweil were victorious over G. Ulanday and C. Marsala 8-6.
The Eagles did not let up heading in to singles, as they got the win in 5 of the 6 matches. Kurzweil struck first at No. 3 singles as she defeated Marsala 6-1, 6-1. Moments later, Smith setback Ulanday at No. 2 6-2, 6-2.
The match winner went to Klein in the No. 1 position when she beat Nyugen 6-2, 6-1 to make it 4-0 in favor of the Eagles. Riepe would fall to Bizines 6-0, 2-6, 5-10 for the lone Gamecocks point.
With the match clinched, the Eagles continued their aggressive game styles when Norregaard defeated Mirceta at No. 6 6-2, 6-4. Vasekina added an additional point as she bounced Kerindi 6-4, 6-4 to seal the Gamecocks fate and solidify the Eagle victory 6-1.
The Eagles will return to the friendly confines and look to extend their winning streak to 5 as they have a mid-week battle with the Chanticleers of Coastal Carolina Wednesday March 11th at 2:30 p.m. from the Wallis Tennis Center.
