Georgia Southern returns to action at the Mason Rudolph Championship April 3-5 at the Vanderbilt Legends Club in Nashville, Tenn. It's the fourth consecutive season the Eagles have played in the tournament. Georgia Southern finished third in 2011 and fifth in 2012 and 2014. The tournament was played in the fall the first two years in which the Eagles competed. This year's field features eight teams in the top-50 according to Golfstat, including Georgia Southern, which is ranked No. 40.
Georgia Southern is coming off a third-place finish at its home tournament, the Schenkel Invitational, March 20-21.
Kim Koivu led the way for the Eagles and tied for 12th (-7), while
Matt Mierzejewski tied for 19th (-5).
Scott Wolfes tied for 24th (-4). The field featured 11 teams ranked in Golfstat's top-50.
The Mason Rudolph will be the final tuneup before the Eagles travel to their first Sun Belt Championship April 19-21 at Raven Golf Club in Destin, Fla. Georgia Southern is playing with the same lineup that played in the Schenkel, and
Archer Price will compete as an individual.
Wolfes leads the Eagles with aÂ
70.65 stroke average in 23 rounds this season, and the senior has shot 70 or under in 13 rounds. He has 14 top-5 and 21 top-10 finishes in his career and has placed in the top-20 in 29 of his 43 collegiate starts.Â
Koivu and Storey will be in the lineup for the fifth time this spring, while Mabbett and Mierzejewski are making their second consecutive appearances. Koivu ranks second on the team in stroke average, and Mierzejewski is fourth. Archer Price will make his seventh start this season and his second as an individual.
Mabbett and Wolfes played in last season's Mason Rudolph Championship. Wolfes tied for 12th after shooting 215 (+2), and Mabbett tied for 39th with a 224 (+11).Georgia Southern is paired with Kennesaw State and SMU and will tee off hole 1 at 9 a.m. (CT) Friday.
