STATESBORO, Ga. – The Georgia Southern baseball team will travel to the Kennesaw State Owls on Tuesday before returning to J.I. Clements Stadium to host the Jacksonville Dolphins on Wednesday.
First pitch in Kennesaw, Ga. is set for 5 p.m. The Eagles' only home game this week will get underway at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
The Eagles (14-11) went 2-2 last week after sweeping Saturday's doubleheader from Arkansas State. GS is tied for first place with a 6-3 Sun Belt Conference record and will face the other team in the league with a 6-3 record, Texas State, this weekend.
The Georgia Southern pitching staff allowed just eight runs over the weekend and holds a 3.87 ERA this season.
Byron Yelverton threw a combined 4.1 scoreless frames against The Citadel and Arkansas State and earned the win in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader.
Matt Geiger shut down the Red Wolves' offense after they took a 2-1 lead in the third inning of game two of the doubleheader and tossed five perfect innings before allowing a run in the ninth inning. Geiger picked up his first win of the season after the Eagles broke open a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the eighth inning.
The Eagles are hitting .255 as a team. Freshman
Logan Baldwin leads the team with a .311 batting average and has 19 hits in 61 at-bats.
Aaron Mizell hit three home runs last week and leads the squad with six long balls and six doubles. Mizell is hitting .266 with 22 RBI in 24 starts this year.
Freshman lefthander
Josh Slate will make his second start of the season on Tuesday. Slate is 0-1 with an 8.44 ERA this season. The freshman has struck out eight batters and allowed just five hits in 5.1 innings this season.
Kennesaw State (12-10) will counter with freshman righthander A.J. Moore. Moore is 1-0 with a 4.35 ERA in six appearances this season. The freshman has made three starts and has tallied 25 strikeouts in 20.2 innings.
The Owls are coming off a weekend sweep of William and Mary and bounced back after dropping six of their previous seven games.
Jacksonville (11-11) will host UCF on Tuesday and enters the mid-week with wins in five of their last seven games. The Dolphins took a series from Samford two weeks ago and swept the two meetings against Mount Saint Mary's over the weekend.
