STATESBORO, Ga. – Jeremy Brown hit a two-run single in the 13th inning to lift the Arkansas State Red Wolves to a 3-1 win over the Georgia Southern Eagles in the series opener at J.I. Clements Stadium.
Austin Baker led off the 13th inning with a double but was thrown out at the plate with the bases loaded for the second out of the inning. Georgia Southern (12-11, 4-3) was nearly out of the jam before Brown singled to left field to plate the go ahead runs.
Colton Kibler struck out two batters and set the Eagles down in order in the bottom half of the 13th inning to pick up his first win of the season. Kibler (1-1) tossed 4.2 scoreless frames and did not allow a hit.
Chris Brown was tagged with his second loss of the season. Brown (2-2) walked four and struck out five batters over a career-high 2.2 innings.
The Eagles led 1-0 in the second inning after
Chase Griffin led off with a solo home run to left field. Griffin's second home run of the season was just one of four hits allowed by Tyler Zuber. Zuber struck out 13 batters over seven innings.
Arkansas State (9-9, 2-4) rallied to tie the game in the seventh inning. Austin Baker led off the frame with a single and scored on a passed ball.
The run was the only one allowed by starter
Evan Challenger who struck out seven batters over 7.2 innings. Challenger allowed just five hits and did not walk a batter but received a no decision.
GS left four combined runners on base in the third and fourth innings.
Will Hudgins singled with two outs in the third inning to put runners on the corners before Zuber struck out

Logan Baldwin and coaxed a fly out to leave two runners in scoring position in the fourth inning.
The series concludes tomorrow with a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. Sunday's game was moved to Saturday due to the threat of rain. Senior

Connor Simmons will get the call in game two.
