Coming off a fifth-place finish in the first tournament of the spring at the SunTrust Gator Invitational, the Eagles travel to the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate Monday and Tuesday. Georgia Southern shot a 281 in the final round of the Gator, the second-lowest team score of the day, to move up three spots into fifth.Â
"We had 14 of 15 scores at 75 or better on a tough, tight course at the Gator, and that shows stability and consistency," said Georgia Southern coach
Carter Collins. "A 281 as a team at that course is a nice round, and that gives us positive momentum heading into the Wexford Intercollegiate."
Charlie Martin shot his lowest round of the season in the final round at the Gator, a 68, and tied for 15th. It was his second top-20 of the season and 16th of his career. Senior
Kim Koivu shot 75-72-70=217 to tie for 23rd for the second-best finish of his two-year Eagle career. Freshman
Jake Storey had an impressive collegiate debut as an individual. He carded a 218 (+8) and tied for 27th.
Scott Wolfes leads the team with a 71.13 scoring average, and seven of his 15 rounds have been 70 or under. He placed in the top-10 at all four tournaments in the fall and has now finished in the top-20 in 27 of his 40 collegiate starts. He was named the Sun Belt Conference Golfer of the Month twice in the fall.
