Eagles Set for Final Competition Before Sun Belt Championships

STATESBORO, Ga. - The Georgia Southern track and field team will have their final tune up before their first-ever Sun Belt Championships on Thursday. The Eagles will return to the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C. to compete in the High Point Team Challenge.

Hilton Garden Invite Recap
Georgia Southern posted two top-five finishes at the Hilton Garden Invite at the end of January. Kelsey Arnold finished third in the weight throw with the second-highest distance of her career (17.39m) and set a new indoor personal record of 11.62m in the shot put. Keyanna Harris finished fourth in the high jump with a height of 1.67m.
Sun Belt Top Times
The Georgia Southern Eagles have five student-athletes in the top-10 of the Sun Belt's Indoor Track & Field Top Times Report. Twandalette Cotton is the highest ranking Eagle. She ranks third in the triple jump with a distance of 12.67m. Jordan Fordham added her name to the list and ranks 10th after posting a time of 7.74 in the 60m dash at the Hilton Garden Invite. Keyanna Harris ranks fourth in the high jump with a height of 1.68m. Ashleigh Rasheed ranks seventh in the triple jump with a distance of 12.15m, and Kelsey Arnold's school record distance of 17.90m in the weight throw ranks fifth in the league.
Arnold Sets Weight Throw Record
Sophomore Kelsey Arnold topped her own school record in the Weight Throw by nearly a meter and finished first in the event in the Indoor season opener at the Birmingham Southern Icebreaker in December. Arnold's third throw of 17.90m broke the previous school record of 16.97m set back in 2014 at the Southern Conference Indoor Championships.
Seniors Ready for Final Season
The 2014-15 Track and Field season will be the final one for four seniors. Stephanne Henzler, Kimberly Thomas, Lauren Toomer and Jasmin Walker will all look to make the 2014-15 campaign a memorable one. Henzler competed for the Eagles in her first season last year and placed 10th at the SoCon Outdoor Championships in the hammer throw. Thomas is in her fourth year on the team and was a member of the SoCon Champion 4x400m Relay team, while Toomer set three personal bests last season. Walker is coming off a win in the long jump at the SoCon Championships and earned All-Conference honors in the 60m dash.
