Day One Recap
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Kelsey Arnold and Samantha Cook both tossed personal bests in the shot put as the Georgia Southern Track and Field team completed the second day of the Hilton Garden Invitational.
"We competed well and are putting the pieces in place. The girls went out and put it all together today and are really preparing well for the Sun Belt Conference Championships," Head Coach Kelly Carter said.
The Eagles saw a lot of competition on the track and in the field events which Carter feels "helps the girls see what they are doing right and what areas they need to correct."
The shot put event saw some excellent performances. Cook set a new personal best in the event (11.69m) and bested the previous team season best set in December at the BSC Panther Indoor Icebreaker. Arnold finished right behind her and set a new indoor personal best of 11.62m.
Arnold and Cook were joined by Assistant Coach Brittany Cox. Cox, an NCAA All-American and Sun Belt Conference champion at Middle Tennessee State, won the event with a throw of 15.88m.
"Our throws program is really strong, and we expect great performances from them. Coach Cox is teaching and leading by example," said Carter. "The girls really enjoy it when she competes with them, and she does a great job of breaking things down for them."
Jordan Fordham, who qualified for the 60m dash finals with a time of 7.74 yesterday, finished 21st in the finals with a time of 7.93.
Chasin Gladis finished first in her heat in the 200m dash and placed 24th overall with a time of 26.42.
