WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Kelsey Arnold finished third in the weight throw as The Georgia Southern track and field team completed the first day of the Hilton Garden Invitational.
"Everyday we make one step forward to try and win the Sun Belt Championship. The girls are understanding what we are trying to do and are competing hard. I am very proud to be their coach," said Head Coach
Kelly Carter.
Arnold tossed her second highest distance of her career (17.39m) and bested her throw by over a meter from the Bob Pollock Invitational last weekend.
"Kelsey stepped up and showed her leadership on the team. She really is coming into her own, and I am very proud of her. I love watching the progression," said Carter.
Keyanna Harris finished fourth in the high jump (1.67m) and narrowly missed on setting a new season best.
Rounding out the jumps for the Eagles,
Nia Hill posted a team season-best distance and a new personal record in the long jump (5.28m).
"Today was another step towards them getting use to competing in the conference," said Carter about the jumps program. "It is all coming together. There are certain elements in practice the girls are using, and I am happy with how things are coming along."
The Eagles' distance medley relay team returned to competition on Friday and posted a season-best time of 13:02.59. The combination of
