STATESBORO, Ga. - The Georgia Southern Athletics Marketing department is trying to add to the Hanner Fieldhouse atmosphere by unifying Eagle Nation. Fan cheer cards are being placed on seats in Hanner Fieldhouse before basketball games to help start new traditions and aid the crowd in cheering on the Eagles.
"Our fans and especially our student section bring the energy that creates the atmosphere in Hanner Fieldhouse," said Gleen Hart, associate athletic director for external affairs. "Having sellout crowds who are constantly on their feet and cheering loud means a lot to our student-athletes and is crucuial to the success of our teams. We want Hanner Fieldhouse to be the toughest place to play in the league."
The cards are resting on the seats as fans enter Hanner. Inside are some guidelines for Georgia Southern fans:
1.) Stand up and cheer loud
2.) Get pumped up for our starting lineups
3.) Stay on your feet until your Eagles score their first point
4.) During opponent free throws, be so loud that Hanner shakes
5.) Stand up and clap for your fight song
Both Eagle basketball teams are back in action against Appalachian State Thursday with the women tipping off the doubleheader at 5 p.m. and the men following at 7:30 p.m. It's a TrueBlue Out - fans are encouraged to wear blue to support the Eagles, and the first 500 students will get a free blue rally towel, courtesy of The Hamptons. The Border Pawtrol Frisbee Show will perform at halftime of both games as well.
