CLEMSON, S.C. - Kelsey Arnold and Karli Koning won the weight throw and the 3000m, respectively as the Georgia Southern Track and Field team completed the first day of competition at the Bob Pollock Invitational at the Clemson Indoor Track and Field Complex.
Arnold won the weight throw for the second meet in a row with a distance of 16.18m. Teammate Stephanne Henzler gave the Eagles two top-5 finishes as she tossed a personal record of 15.21m.
"Kelsey has really stepped up to show leadership on the team," said Head Coach Kelly Carter. "She has been working hard with Coach Brittany Cox and the work is showing off."
Freshman Karli Koning won the 3000m run, her first-ever attempt at the event on the collegiate level, with a time of 10:54.67. Ashton Lord came in fifth in the same event with a time of 11:19.89.
"This was a very positive day of competition for us. We had some good performances, and the girls are competing well. The programs are doing well, and we have some great talent at Georgia Southern. I am hoping that the girls that are competing tomorrow, compete at the same intensity level as what we saw today," said Carter.
Chasin Gladdis finished seventh in the 200m dash with a time of 26.25 and qualified for the 60m dash finals by besting her time from December. Gladdis posted the second-fastest time in the preliminaries (7.86).
Leigha Long and Camryn Coleman both posted season bests. Long finished the 800m run with a time of 2:29.58, while Coleman posted a mark of 5.23m in the long jump.
Sadia Yansaneh finished in the top-10 of the 400m dash with a time of 1:01.50.
